In its 30 years, Secret Witness has grown from taking five or six calls a month to more than 200. Tips have helped solve more than 1,000 crimes, including 33murders. The organization often pays more than $15,000 a year in reward money. Secret Witness has paid over $250,000 to date, and we have received over 57,000 anonymous tips.


For example, a tipster who led authorities to a storage shed in Sparks full of evidence used to convict ex-Miami cop, David Middleton, of killing Kathy Powell and Thelma Davila declined to accept the $7,000 reward that has been raised. Instead, the money has created an annual scholarship for a Hispanic student pursuing a degree in education.

Secret Witness Tips Help Track Down Park Vandals. RENO, NV (AP) - 12/9/99). A University of Nevada, Reno basketball player has been arrested in last week's destruction of turf at a park in northwest Reno. Evan Glusman, 22, of Las Vegas was charged on Thursday with one count of felony destruction of property. He's accused of driving his truck onto the park, which still was under construction, and spinning "donuts" in the new turf, Reno police said. Nearly 10,000 square feet of sod was destroyed. It's expected to cost more than $5,000 to repair. Secret Witness offered a $1,000 reward and received 25 tips that helped lead to the arrest. Glusman is a sophomore at UNR and sat out his freshman year. He was a standout at Durango High School in Las Vegas where he averaged 15.6 points a game in his senior year and played in the city All-Star game.


STRONG ARMED ROBBERY (RENO POLICE DEPARTMENT) 10/15/2000 - AM-PM STORE, 1300 South Virginia Street, Reno, NV. REWARD $750.00. On Sunday, October 15, 2000 a suspect entered the AM-PM Store and approached the counter to purchase a soft drink. when the victim opened the cash register, the suspect reached over the counter and began grabbing the cash out of the register. The victim grabbed the suspect to get the money back, and s struggle ensued. The suspect was able to get away and flee the scene going west with an undetermined amount of cash. The store surveillance camera caught the robbery on video The suspect is described as a black male, in his 40's, approximately 5'10" tall, 185 pounds, with short salt and pepper hair. This suspect was last seen wearing a lime colored nylon sweat jacket, faded blue jeans, and dirty in appearance. SUSPECT CAPTURED THROUGH A SECRET WITNESS TIP.


ARMED ROBBERY/ASSAULT WITH A DEADLY WEAPON (2 INCIDENTS) (RENO POLICE DEPARTMENT - 8/27/2000 - High & Willow Streets and 902 South Center Street, Reno, NV. REWARD $1,500.00. Incident #1. On Sunday, August 27, 2000 at approximately 2:45 a.m. a man reported being an armed robbery victim to Reno Police officers. The victim stated he was walking in the area of High and Willow Street when he was approached by an early 1990 model, faded red, compact four door vehicle. The front passenger of the vehicle reached out and struck the victim with a stick as they passed. The victim attempted to flee the area after observing the vehicle return and chase after him. Four suspects exited the vehicle and robbed him of his money, wallet and other belongings while one of the suspects beat him repeatedly with a stick. Incident #2. At approximately 4:30 a.m. a second victim was walking in the rear parking lot of 901 South Center Street when he was stuck by the same vehicle listed above and was knocked to the ground. Several subjects, approximately five or six, exited the vehicle and physically attacked him. The suspects took the victim's wallet and other belongings and fled the area. The victim is case received several facial injuries, a partially collapsed lung and was transported to Washoe Medical Center. Two of the suspects are described as white male adults, in their 20's. One suspect is approximately 6'0" tall, 200 pounds, blonde hair and muscular. The other suspect is approximately 5'8", 180 pounds, black hair, and muscular. The front of this suspect's hair was bleached and he wore a lip ring in the lower lip. No description was given on the other suspects except that in the second incident all of them were described as being in their early to mid 20's and "skin head", type based on their dress and hair style.
